Subaru Unveils New 2024 Crosstrek Wilderness

Joins the Outback and Forester in the Wilderness Pack

Subaru today revealed the much anticipated Crosstrek Wilderness at the New York International Auto Show. The company says it’s the “most rugged and trail-capable Crosstrek ever” and highlighted these features:

  • Upgraded suspension and all-terrain tires

  • 9.3-inch ground clearance

  • Unique exterior and interior design

  • Standard EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology

  • Standard 2.5-liter engine and improved 3,500 lb. towing capacity

  • Starting price of $31,995

Of note is the significant increase in towing capacity, which Subaru says is thanks to the addition of a transmission oil cooler. The Wilderness includes the 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER engine with 182 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque.

I posted these pics on the Instagram page just after the event and we’ve had some great discussion there and you should check that out. Initial reactions are definitely mixed, with most of the negative feedback surrounding the plastic on the sides of the vehicle, no turbo (no surprise even though I want it), and the lack of a manual transmission option.

Personally, I want to like it a lot. In the photos, all that plastic on the sides is a bit gharish, but I’m withholding final judgement until I can see one in person.

If you missed the reveal (it was very short) you can watch it, and read more about the car, on Subaru’s site.
